Notes from Interview with Wikinews

This interview, filmed by Jeff Drake (YouTube), was recorded with Mario J. Lucero and Isabel Ruiz on September 27, 2014, for Wikinews.

Though both Mario and Isabel tried their best to answer the questions honestly, their minds were preoccupied with their marriage plans for October 24th, 2014,  just under a month away. This is the reason they sounded a bit giddy and distracted. The following notes are to clarify and correct statements made during the interview:

  • Thad’s World Destruction: Before Destruction (TWD) centers around was written by Kevin Garner, Mario J. Lucero, and Byron Alvarez in high school.
  • Even though Google put a cog in our works, it doesn’t mean that them shutting off our AdSense wasn’t a good business lesson to learn from. Google’s a large company, and they do great work, but even they can make mistakes. You don’t want to be caught off guard, web start-ups should follow business know-how. Including diversifying your portfolio, in other words, don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. That includes not relying on a single form of income, there are several web advertisement networks, Google AdSense is a large one, but there are plenty of others out there; AdBrite, Project Wonderful (comics), Speechbubble Media (comics), Intergi (gaming), etc. Even on a site like YouTube there are alternatives to AdSense, even major performers on YouTube make use of them, especially since ad views are dropping due to services like AdBlock; those alternatives include getting sponsors, requesting donations, or running a campaign on something like Patreon.
  • It was not a congressional panel, it was a Senate committee that Seth Rogen spoke at, and the opening statements by Seth Rogen can be found at C-SPAN, http://www.c-span.org/video/?c4485299/seth-rogen-opening-statement.
  • Though we said “neuroscience” multiple times, we meant any research into mind degenerating illnesses and problems, such as Alzheimer’s research and Dementia research.
  • Any, and all, Spanglish was used for comedic effect. Mario can’t even speak Spanish.
  • We were notified, to give our answers, “under the premise that people know who you are; this ensures that you skip formalities, and give more informative and relaxed answers, and that the interview isn’t about you pitching yourselves or your products.” We tried to do this, to the best of our ability, but we have no quarrel with people not knowing who we are. Both of us are extremely shy people, and we don’t have any feelings of self-importance. In fact, in most of our non-HSG works we go un-credited… which the vast majority of the time. Heaven Sent Gaming is an artistic outlet for us, and we are absolutely confounded by any interest in us, and we thank anyone for any amount of time spent on our artworks; its an honor, honestly, God bless you all.
